What to See and Do in Tallahassee in 1 Day
Aug 11, 2023 06:29PM ● By Cristi Mc KeeSummer in Tallahassee is the perfect time to get out and about and spend a whole day doing “Tallahassee things.” Here’s a short list of what to eat, do, and see in the Capital City in one day.
Where to Eat & Drink
Bradley’s Country Store — Country smoked sausage is a family tradition at Bradley’s Country Store, which was founded in the capital city in 1927, and has since gained national recognition from governors to city folk alike. You can drop by the authentic country store and pick up a signature sausage dog, old-fashioned sodas and candy, and grab a couple of tasty Tallahassee-centric souvenirs, such as locally-sourced tupelo honey, mayhaw jelly and coarse ground country milled grits.
RedEye Coffee — For coffee lovers, a stop at RedEye Coffee is a no-brainer. A coffee shop with a cause, RedEye Coffee has 4 locations across Tallahassee and just might be the city’s most iconic coffee shop, specializing in tasty coffee combinations (think lemonade and cold brew coffee), classic hot drinks like caramel macchiatos, Italian sodas, and more.
What to See
USS Tallahassee Bell — The USS Tallahassee Bell, which is found on location at City Hall, is not only a historical landmark, but also a unique sight to see in downtown Tallahassee. The 107-year-old bell was part of the USS Tallahassee, a ship launched in 1901 for the U.S. Navy, and is an especially important artifact from the city.
Florida State Capitol — Commonly referred to as “the new capitol,” the Florida State Capitol is an architectural wonder to behold in downtown Tallahassee. Part of The Capitol Complex, this building is home to Florida’s Executive and Legislative branches and located in close proximity to the Historic Capitol and historic Knott Building.
What to Do
Take a stroll through Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park — Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park is a classic Tallahassee tourism spot—with good reason! A springtime visit in mid-to-late March will land you in the peak time for viewing that masterpieces of floral architecture the state park lends itself to.
Visit the Museum of Florida History — Located at the R. A. Gray Building in downtown Tallahassee, this extensive museum brims with artifacts and exhibits from and about Florida throughout the years, its colonization, displays on the “lost Floridians” and native cultures, and informational displays on iconic Florida residents, businesses, animals, and more.
